Affordable Virginia Tells Rep. Kiggans to Walk the Walk: Vote NO on Republican Tax Scam that Guts Medicaid

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, the Senate passed the Republican Tax Scam. Now, Rep. Jen Kiggans is going to have to decide if she’s going to vote on a bill that’s even worse than before. Either way, this is her chance to walk the walk and support Virginians, instead of tax cuts for billionaires over Medicaid and SNAP for her constituents.

“Rep. Jen Kiggans has one job: to protect the livelihood of the people in this district. This bill would gut Medicaid and SNAP while handing tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and large corporations. Virginia’s rural hospitals are already bracing for the worst, and more than 300,000 Virginians are set to lose their healthcare if this bill becomes law,” said Emily Yeatts, Campaigns Director for Affordable Virginia. “Rep. Kiggans has signed letter after letter about Medicaid cuts, but when it comes time to vote, she never stands up for her constituents. Virginians deserve more than lip service. It’s time for her to grow a spine and walk the walk: vote no and protect the people she was elected to serve.”

The bill that passed out of the Senate is even more extreme than the House version, slashing deeper into Medicaid while expanding tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Even more people stand to lose healthcare, food assistance, and their jobs due to the provisions in this bill.
