Diesel Prices Hit Record Highs as House Votes to End Military Action in Iran War
Virginia Beach, VA – The House voted yesterday to end the conflict in Iran, as it continues to drive up costs for Virginia families and businesses. Virginia’s own Rep. Jen Kiggans voted against ending the war. The Iran war is driving diesel prices to record highs, increasing costs for truckers, farmers, and businesses that use it to fuel machinery that produces and transports everyday goods. The national average reached $6.27 on September 15th, 70% above its prewar level.
“Prices are going up on everything, and it’s becoming impossible to keep up,” said Lynn from Virginia Beach. “Every time I go to the grocery store, I’m forced to either pay more or cut back on something my family needs. This is unsustainable. And now I’m hearing these gas and diesel will make the problem even worse. Families cannot keep stretching their budgets when the cost of nearly everything continues to rise.”
Diesel powers the tractors that harvest food, the trucks that deliver groceries, and equipment used in construction. Higher fuel costs, at an estimated over $820 per household, increase pressure that eventually lead to higher costs for everything else, impacting families at the checkout line.
From gas and diesel to food and other everyday necessities, the war is adding to rising costs for Virginia families. This comes as Virginians are already paying $3,500 more since the start of this administration, with families facing higher prices due to tariffs and reduced access to food assistance. SNAP enrollment in Virginia has fallen by more than 100,000 people compared with a year earlier, following the Republican Tax Law’s largest SNAP funding cuts in history.
