Health Care Advocates Have Their Arms Up While Rep. Kiggans and Congressional Republicans Hold Our Health Care System Hostage

Virginia Beach, VA – With the ACA open enrollment period opening this weekend, advocates and constituents gathered outside of Rep. Kiggans’ Virginia Beach office to demand she make the existing health care tax credits permanent. Without them, over 30,000 of her constituents would face higher costs and could even see their insurance premiums double going into the new year.

“I rely on the ACA tax credit to afford my insurance,” said Becky Roberts of Virginia Beach. “I don’t have health care through work, and paying for it even with the tax credit is becoming difficult as everything else is going up in price, too. I’m just not sure how anyone is getting by these days. Everyone I know is struggling with one thing or another, and the President is building a ballroom instead of keeping our health care costs from going up. The least she can do is save the tax credits, everyone deserves health care!”

“We continue to hear from people about their experience with the ACA, and that before it, they struggled getting coverage at all because so many companies wouldn’t include people with pre-existing conditions,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Each passing day, another part of our health care system is chipped away, yet at the same time, Republicans in Congress are giving massive tax breaks to billionaires. People are struggling to keep up with groceries and rent, and are planning smaller holiday celebrations, and now they’re not sure if they’ll be able to see a doctor next year. We’re calling on Rep. Kiggans to stand up, uphold the oath she took to do no harm, and make these tax credits permanent, too many lives are on the line.”
