ICYMI: Hometown Paper Calls Out Rep. Kiggans for Turning Back on Constituents
Virginia Beach, VA – Last week, The Virginian-Pilot ran an illuminating editorial on the hypocrisy of Representative Kiggans and Representative Wittman – two House Republicans known for their staunch stance on fiscal responsibility, especially where the national debt was concerned, and had publicly called for a bill that did not touch Medicaid. With their vote in support of the Republican Tax Law, they have aligned themselves with fiscal and moral irresponsibility, resulting in an increased deficit and over 300,000 Virginians that could lose Medicaid.
From the article:
Some 323,000 Virginians could lose their health care coverage and 204,000 could lose access to benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The loss of clean energy tax credits could cost the commonwealth as many as 20,000 jobs and hamstring the promise of a sector already growing the regional economy.
“Virginians have been sounding the alarm about these cuts since the cuts were first proposed,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “We have heard from families across Hampton Roads and they are afraid of losing their jobs, losing access to their medications, and having to travel farther to get care. You don’t have to be an economist to know what this means for Virginia families, and you definitely don’t have to serve in Congress to care. Representative Kiggans and Representative Wittman have made that very clear.”
