NEW AD: Hampton Roads Veterans Call Out Rep. Jen Kiggans for Cutting Veterans’ Health Care
Virginia Beach, VA – Affordable Virginia launched a new ad calling out Rep. Jen Kiggans for her vote to cut veterans’ health care while giving massive tax breaks to billionaires. In the ad, three veterans and constituents of Rep. Jen Kiggans speak out after she voted to slash health care coverage that veterans and their families rely on.
“Too many people assume that veterans are fully covered, but the reality is a lot of us need specialized care, and that’s where Medicaid comes in. On top of that, many military and veteran families rely on Medicaid to make sure their kids can get the care they need, mine included,” said Yusun, Air Force veteran and Virginia Beach resident. “It’s hard to understand why Rep. Jen Kiggans would vote to cut those lifelines while handing out tax breaks to billionaires. Families like mine are the ones who will feel the consequences of those decisions.”
When Rep. Jen Kiggans voted for the Republican Tax Law, she slashed Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians who rely on it. Virginia is home to over 600,000 veterans and tens of thousands of active-duty service members, and many rely on Medicaid for their families. In the Commonwealth, more than 47,000 veterans access health coverage through Medicaid, which covers services that TRICARE does not. Additionally, about 3 million children in military families nationwide are eligible for Medicaid.
