New Billboard Calls on Rep. Jen Kiggans to Stop Slashing Health Care
Virginia Beach, VA – This week, Affordable Virginia’s billboard went up calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to stop cutting Medicaid.
The billboard features Bernita, a resident of Virginia Beach who also appeared in a television and digital ad as part of a larger campaign that launched last month, calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to stop prioritizing billionaires over working families, and to stop making cuts to health care.
Bernita’s son suffers from Cerebral Palsy and is partially paralyzed, and because of Medicaid, he is able to thrive. Without Medicaid, she would not be able to afford his ongoing care, including the braces he needs to walk.
“Rep. Kiggans said she is proud to vote for this bill, and I’m proud to be in these ads calling her out for her bad vote,” said Bernita, featured in this campaign. “The Republican Tax Law was an attack on working families struggling to stay above water. As a former health care worker, I’m especially offended that, as a former nurse practitioner, Rep. Kiggans could support any policy that would limit anyone’s access to health care. Rep. Kiggans, if you want something to be proud of, vote for bills that will help, not hurt, the community.”
This past year, Rep. Kiggans has:
Voted to slash health care for 260,000 Medicaid recipients in Virginia. These cuts will also threaten health care jobs and close rural hospitals here in the Commonwealth.
Voted against restoring health care tax credits, impacting 326,000 Virginians who are currently facing steep premium hikes due to the expiration of the credits in 2025.
