Representative Jen Kiggans asks Senate to Clean Up the Mess She Voted For
Virginia Beach, VA – Last week, Representative Kiggans, with thirteen other House Republicans, led a letter urging Senate Republicans to save the clean energy tax credits they themselves had voted to repeal in the House reconciliation bill. Virginia already ranks among the regions most affected by climate change, and now, energy costs would rise, and over 15,000 Virginians could lose their jobs as a result of the tax credit elimination.
“Virginia families are already adapting to the quickly changing climate, but with the loss of the clean energy tax credits, many families and businesses will see their energy costs rise,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “For House Republicans to support the bill that would enact these cuts for working families, then ask for their colleagues in the Senate to ‘restore common sense’ is insulting to those they represent. Rep. Kiggans knows that her constituents brace each year for hurricane season, and they have witnessed the effects of climate change first-hand, in real time. Now they won’t be able to make those small changes that would help their bottom line, and halting projects – including the planned offshore wind turbines – could put the family-supporting jobs in her district at risk. Rep. Kiggans had the opportunity to stand up for her constituents, but instead, she put party over people and is now asking others to clean up her mess.”
Here are the facts:
Families may see their energy bills rise by up to $400 a month
Over 15,000 Virginians are at risk of losing their jobs as a result of these clean energy cuts
