She Said WHAT? Kiggans Doubles Down in Vote to Raise Health Care Costs

Virginia Beach, VA – Last week, Rep. Jen Kiggans voted against lowering health care costs, again. This comes after the expiration of ACA tax credits, which led to insurance premiums in Virginia skyrocketing and in some cases doubling, affecting over 300,000 Virginians. Despite her vote against saving over 21,000 of her own constituents' money, the bill passed in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Jen Kiggans said just weeks ago that “she can’t have” everyone’s health care premiums go up at the end of the year. However, when given the opportunity to support the only viable option to stop those premium increases, she voted against it. Once again, her words failed to match her actions, and Virginia families are left paying the price with higher premiums, fewer options for care, and more uncertainty about their health care.

Since then, she’s defended her vote, saying:

Channel 13: “I am not interested in pursuing just extending COVID-era tax credits without reform in place, thus I voted ‘no’ yesterday.”

NewsNation: “The bill that was passed today was a clean three-year extension, which is a very long time to extend COVID-era tax credits.”

The Pilot: “I have never supported a three-year extension of COVID-era tax credits.”

“Despite what Rep. Kiggans says, families are still struggling after COVID. These tax credits meant the difference between going to the doctor or not for too many of us,” said Lori Wright, Virginia Beach resident. “Before I was approved for disability, I was one of them. There’s no way I would have been able to afford insurance without those tax credits. Her vote against extending them wasn’t a surprise; she has made it clear that her idea of reform just means making life more expensive for her constituents in favor of providing tax cuts for billionaires.”
