SHOCKER: With Tariffs in Place, Inflation is Up, Prices are Up,and Virginia’s Working Families Pay the Price
Virginia Beach, VA – Last month’s inflation report shows what economists and families alike knew would happen when tariffs took effect – life is getting more expensive for consumers, not corporations. As anticipated, businesses are passing along tariff-related costs to their customers.
“Early this year, we saw Congress take unprecedented action and give President Trump the ability to impose tariffs on a whim,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Prices going up wasn’t a secret, it was a promise, and a gut punch to working families. This report confirms that this is just the beginning, and as retailers run out of existing products, families can anticipate a sharp increase in essentials this fall. Working families are already well-versed in pinching pennies, but that is becoming impossible, and these tariffs aren’t helping anyone except corporations and billionaires get further ahead. Rep. Jen Kiggans could have prevented this, but instead prioritized the party line over working people, and they are suffering the consequences.”
These rises in costs don’t just impact new items, they also impact the secondhand market, so folks will see used cars go up, too. This, coming right as families are making their back-to-school shoppin, will hit even harder.
