Advocates Gather One More Time Ahead of Crucial Vote to Urge Kiggans to Vote YES on Health Care

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, advocates and Rep. Kiggans’ own constituents joined Affordable Virginia and Freedom Virginia outside her Town Center office to send a message: VOTE YES on the three-year ACA tax credit extension.

This is part of a larger campaign from constituents in Hampton Roads to protect the health care tax credits. Last month, advocates headed to Washington and Kiggans’ office to voice their support of the 3-year extension.

“We know that Rep. Kiggans has said she doesn’t think we need these tax credits, and we’re here to say, ‘Yes, we do,” said Nancy Caruthers, resident of Virginia Beach. “Too many families are struggling to get by. They could barely afford insurance before, and without these, it’s completely out of reach. Some of these premiums look like mortgage payments, and people are struggling to pay those, too. We are here to demand that Rep. Kiggans show up for us. We are not asking for a handout, but it’s hard to watch billionaires get all these breaks and not wonder when it’ll be our turn.”

“Rep. Kiggans has had a vendetta against the ACA since before she took office. She has said that her constituents don’t need these and has proposed half-measures that do not provide long-term solutions for the health care crisis sweeping Virginia. Thanks to her Republican colleagues, this is going to a vote,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Now it’s her turn to join them and vote to bring back these tax credits so Virginia families can afford essential health care coverage.”
