Affordable Virginia Is Nuts for Lower Health Care Costs on New Mobile Billboard

Suffolk, VA – This weekend, Affordable Virginia joined the festivities in Suffolk for the annual Peanut Festival. In light of recent cuts to Medicaid, skyrocketing health care costs, and the government shutdown, people in Hampton Roads are starting to feel a bit nuts.

These billboards are part of a larger campaign by Affordable Virginia to call on Rep. Kiggans to reverse her deep Medicaid cuts, permanently extend the ACA tax credits, and reopen the government after Republicans forced a shutdown. More than 326,000 Virginians rely on ACA tax credits to afford their health insurance, and without Congressional action to renew them, premiums are projected to more than double. Rep. Kiggans has proclaimed “we don’t need these” regarding the tax credits.

To bring awareness to these mounting issues, Affordable Virginia hired a mobile billboard to hold Rep. Kiggans accountable. The message reads: Rep. Kiggans voted to slash health care for our kids and vets. These cuts are nuts!

“First it was Medicaid, and now it’s health care tax credits, what’s next?” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “People are feeling the shutdown’s effects across the region, and it’s not just federal workers, it’s the small businesses those workers support who are getting squeezed by tariffs, too. All Republicans in Congress need to do is agree to make the health care tax credits permanent, and the government could reopen tomorrow, but Rep. Kiggans doesn’t think her constituents need them permanently. Recent polling indicates that 78% of Americans want these ACA tax credits extended. Either she’s not listening, or she’s nuts. We are calling on Rep. Kiggans to reverse her dangerous healthcare cuts, permanently extend the ACA tax credits, and re-open the government.”
