Affordable Virginia Joins Community Organizations in Thanksgiving Giveaway

Chesapeake, VA – Families in Chesapeake gathered for a shared meal and a turkey giveaway on Saturday. Over a dozen organizations, including Affordable Virginia, came together at RESET INC. to ensure families in our community would have everything they need for their family’s Thanksgiving meal, especially as tariffs have caused the cost of nearly everything, including groceries, to skyrocket this year.
Tariffs have pushed the price of Thanksgiving up this year, with turkey prices jumping 40%. Rep. Kiggans and Congressional Republicans ceded the power to impose tariffs to the President earlier this year, which has led to skyrocketing costs across the board for working families.
“The families we serve are not necessarily the first people others think of as waiting in food lines – we serve nurses, postal workers, hairdressers, retail workers – everyone needs a little extra help sometimes,” said Sabrina Davis, Founder of RESET INC. “This year, we have seen the need increase as costs for everything have risen. We provide food, but we also provide toiletries and diapers and formula, and respite after a shift with showers and a common area where people can use our computers. This is a community space, and we are meeting our community where they are. I’m grateful to everyone who had a hand in making today possible. Thank you.”
“Working families are working harder than ever, but their wages are not going up, and this year prices have risen faster as a result of tariffs,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Organizations like RESET Inc. are essential to bringing daily essentials to struggling families where they are, but their success is proof of the rising needs and disparities faced by families in Hampton Roads. This Thanksgiving, more people are struggling to put food on the table because of rising grocery costs due to the tariffs that Rep. Kiggans supported.”
