Christmas Lists Are Shrinking while Rep. Kiggans Continues to Support Tariffs

Virginia Beach, VA – Families across Virginia have made their holiday lists and are making cuts as costs continue to rise. Despite best efforts, Santa just won’t be leaving as much under the tree this year, and next year isn’t looking too good either.

Tariffs have pushed up the price of the holidays this year, as Rep. Kiggans and Congressional Republicans voted to support the President’s tariffs, leading to skyrocketing costs across the board for working families.

“As a parent of 5 young children, I want to give them the best Christmas I can, and this year it’s going to be smaller than I’d like,” said Kassaundra Stivanson, Chesapeake resident and Navy veteran. “When I talk to my friends and other parents, they’re all saying the same thing – everything is too expensive. We keep cutting things from our budget, and the math still isn’t mathing. Rep. Kiggans keeps telling us that she’s working for us and going to bring our costs down, but between the big bill she passed and her support of tariffs, prices are not going down.”

“Families are doing their best to keep their spirits up, but they are struggling. This year, families have seen a rise in everything, and the big ticket items are more expensive than ever,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Most gifts are imported, so tariffs are impacting the cost of nearly everything. While billionaires and giant corporations are counting on record profits, those profits aren’t from an increase in moving products, it’s from increased costs and greed. This year, Rep. Kiggans has catered to today’s Scrooges, and they all could use a visit from the Ghosts of Christmas Past if families are going to stay above water going into 2026.”
