After Senate Fails to Move on ACA Credits, Affordable Virginia Urges Rep. Kiggans to Sign-On to Discharge Petition
Virginia Beach, VA – Yesterday, the Senate vote to extend ACA tax credits failed, leaving working families hoping for a miracle. The House of Representatives currently has three discharge petitions, however, the one with the most support is a three-year extension that has 214 signatures. It just needs four Republicans to sign on for a floor vote – Rep. Jen Kiggans has yet to sign on.
“We’ve heard from families, small-business owners, folks recovering from cancer, and born with pre-existing conditions who rely on the ACA tax credits to get healthcare they would not otherwise be able to afford,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Working families are already struggling to make ends meet, and with the stress of the end of the year, should not have to scramble to find affordable insurance year after year. Rep. Kiggans needs to sign the three-year extension discharge petition and give families a real chance while Congress creates a permanent solution to make health care affordable for every family in Virginia.”
