Santa Stops in Virginia Beach for Photos and Cocoa

Virginia Beach, VA – Families from Virginia Beach and Affordable Virginia welcomed Santa and Mrs. Claus to Oberndorf Library for storytime and hot cocoa. After a reading of The Night Before Christmas, over 40 children waited their turn to share their wish with the big guy and take home a keepsake photo. Santa knows that making stops at the mall is more expensive this year as a result of new tariffs Rep. Kiggans voted for, and prices just seem to keep going up – this stop was free for the dozens of children and their parents who attended.

“I saw this event posted in a Facebook group I’m a part of, I’m always looking for more affordable and free things for my family to do,” said Meagan Ward, resident of Virginia Beach. “My son is 18 months, and we started this tradition last year, but we’re definitely feeling squeezed. Being able to still visit Santa means a lot, and I’m thankful for the opportunity for him to experience this magic for another year.”

“We know that Virginia families are struggling this year, not just with whether they’ll be able to put presents under the tree, but with keeping the lights on too,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “We wanted to give back to the community and provide an opportunity to get out of the house that would ease the strain, and add to the spirit of the season for all these families. Making memories and carrying traditions shouldn’t be about spending money, but about coming together with our community, and we did that today.”
