Virginia Families Will Stay Warm After Coat Giveaway
Virginia Beach, VA – On Friday, December 12, Affordable Virginia and RESET Inc. welcomed families to RESET’s community room, where they picked out new coats to get through these early winter storms. Over 5 dozen children received coats, and families will be able to put the money they would have spent towards other essentials.
Essentials like winter coats, which need to be purchased almost annually for growing kids, have seen an increase of 24% this year as a direct result of tariffs Rep. Jen Kiggans voted for. The gift of a new coat can make a huge impact for families struggling this winter.
“The families we serve are not looking for handouts, we are in the business of giving them a hand up,” said Sabrina Davis, RESET INC founder. “Being able to host this giveaway here, where these families already feel comfortable, is so important. While here, they can warm up, and with these coats, they will stay warm all winter. We’re grateful for Affordable Virginia continuing to partner with us to meet the needs of our community.”
“We have been tracking rising costs all year, and the holiday season is seeing the culmination of aggressive and unnecessary tariffs’ impacts on working families,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “With the cuts we’ve seen to essential programs like SNAP and Medicaid, and rising health care and energy costs, families are running into roadblocks at every turn. They aren’t trying to keep up with the Joneses, they are just trying to stay afloat. Buying a new coat for your children shouldn’t be out of reach or have a luxury price tag. These tariffs aren’t just bad for our economy, they’re cruel to families just trying to give their kids a better life.”
