Lower Affordable Care Act Enrollment Comes as No Surprise After Rep. Jen Kiggans Opposes Tax Credit Renewal
Virginia Beach, VA – With open enrollment now closed, the health insurance marketplace is set to see a decrease in enrollment due to Congressional Republicans and Rep. Kiggans' failure to restore the health care tax credits.
Earlier this year, Rep. Jen Kiggans voted against a bipartisan effort to restore the credits, leaving over 21,000 of her constituents to face skyrocketing premiums. The Congressional Budget Office projects a whopping 2 million people will lose health insurance as a result of these cuts.
“I’m so angry that my representative, Rep. Jen Kiggans, has doubled down on not voting to extend the health care tax credits. Too many people are going without insurance, and that’s only going to cause more problems for our health care system down the road,” said Lori Wright, a resident of Virginia Beach. “What are people supposed to do when they can’t afford to see a doctor? I relied on these tax credits to afford my care before I was able to qualify for disability, and they were literally a lifesaver. Rep. Jen Kiggans needs to stop prioritizing her billionaire friends and work to make health care affordable for her constituents.”
Despite constituents urging her to restore the health care tax credits, Rep. Jen Kiggans voted against the only viable option to restore them, leaving nearly 400,000 Virginians to face skyrocketing premiums. Rep. Kiggans has a long history of opposing the ACA, including advocating its complete repeal.
