NEW AD: Affordable Virginia Releases New Ad Calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to Stop Cutting Medicaid

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia launched a new ad calling out Rep. Jen Kiggans for her vote to cut Medicaid, increasing health care costs for working families to fund billionaire tax breaks.

In the ad, Frankie, a constituent of Rep. Jen Kiggans from Virginia Beach and Air Force veteran, shares her story of relying on Medicaid to help care for her son, who has autism. Without Medicaid, he would not have received the services at school or at home that he needed to thrive, as he needs round-the-clock care. In the ad, Frankie calls Rep. Jen Kiggans’ vote “cruel” and urges her to stop giving tax breaks to billionaires at the expense of working families.

“My son is developmentally delayed and has autism. As he approached puberty, his care got bigger than his father and I could handle while caring for his siblings,” said Frankie. “We needed help beyond an individualized education plan for my son, and Medicaid made that possible. And now, as an adult, he is able to live on his own, that’s only because of Medicaid. I’m calling on Rep. Kiggans to stop putting tax breaks for billionaires over health care for people like my son.”

When Rep. Jen Kiggans voted for the Republican Tax Law, she slashed Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians who rely on it. These cuts will rip health care away from those who need it, threaten health care jobs, and close rural hospitals here in the Commonwealth.

Read the transcript of “Frankie” below:

“I served eight years in the Air Force.

I have a son who has autism and really relies on Medicaid.

He requires around the clock care.

Jen Kiggans cut Medicaid to give tax breaks to billionaires.

That’s cruel.

If my son’s Medicaid goes away, he will lose his health care.

And, it increases the cost of health care for everyone else.

Shame on you Jen Kiggans.

You need to stop looking out for billionaires and start looking out for veterans and their families.”
