As Job Losses Mount in Virginia, Rep. Kiggans Continues Backing Cost-Raising, Job-Killing Policies
Virginia Beach, VA – Last week’s jobs report confirms what many Virginia residents are feeling. With 92,000 fewer jobs nationwide, a rising 4.4% unemployment rate, the job market remains uncertain for people looking for work.
New reporting shows Hampton Roads is being hit harder by job losses than almost anywhere else in the country. This comes after Rep. Kiggans has repeatedly supported cost-raising and job-killing policies for Virginians, with her vote in support of illegal and cost-raising tariffs, her vote to slash health care and food assistance, and her support of DOGE job cuts that have eliminated thousands of jobs in Virginia.
“This job report doesn’t come as a surprise, and it reflects what we’ve been hearing from families across Hampton Roads,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Rep. Jen Kiggans has repeatedly asked her constituents to be patient – patient with the tariffs, patient when their federal jobs were cut, patient when health care costs soared, patient when they couldn’t get their social security checks, patient when their SNAP benefits were cut. Working families cannot afford patience. Rep. Jen Kiggans needs to stop prioritizing tax cuts for billionaires and give working families a helping hand.”
According to a UVA study, Virginia is on track to lose 10,000 manufacturing jobs this year, on top of a whopping 23,500 jobs lost to DOGE last year. Rep. Kiggans was an early supporter of DOGE despite the large number of civilian federal employees who call Virginia home.
