Rep. Jen Kiggans Put Party Over People in Support of Trump’s Tariffs, AGAIN
Virginia Beach, VA – Last night, Rep. Jen Kiggans joined Republicans in Congress to vote to block any measure that would challenge this Administration’s ability to unilaterally impose tariffs. This past year, Virginians have borne the brunt of Trump’s tariffs, which have led to volatility across the economy, as businesses and families struggle to keep up with rising costs. Another vote is expected today to end Canadian tariffs.
A recent study found that a whopping 96% of tariffs are being paid by US consumers. Rep. Kiggans has asked her constituents to be patient with the process, while Virginia small businesses pay billions, and families paid an additional $1,700 last year due to these tariffs. Rep. Kiggans has repeatedly voted to allow this Administration unilateral control over tariffs, even as they drive up costs for families in her district.
“Working families deserve stability, and these tariffs have all but stripped them of that when planning not just their futures, but next week’s grocery pickup,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “These tariffs hit hard when it was time to go back-to-school shopping, and again when shopping for the Thanksgiving table, and then again when shopping for the holidays. Families are tired of getting beaten down by rising prices, and Rep. Jen Kiggans refuses to give them a hand up. Rep. Kiggans has another opportunity to stand up for working families today by ending Canadian tariffs. We are calling on her to take a stand and cut working families’ costs.”
