Kiggans Votes to Keep Canadian Tariffs in Place as Costs Continue to Rise for Virginia Families
Virginia Beach, VA – Yesterday, Rep. Jen Kiggans voted to keep Canadian tariffs in place, declining to join the six Republicans who sided with Democrats to end them. Canada is one of the United States’ top trading partners, and these tariffs have resulted in huge impacts for consumers.
This vote comes after months of contention surrounding the rising costs of household goods and the skyrocketing cost-of-living for working families who have paid 96% of these tariffs.
“Despite hearing from her constituents about these reckless tariffs, Rep. Jen Kiggans once again voted to keep them and continue squeezing working families,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “In the year since this administration came to power, Virginians have seen prices rise for nearly everything, and that President Trump would impose tariffs on our neighbors and biggest trading partners is a slap in the face to anyone just trying to put food on their table and replace household goods. Rep. Jen Kiggans had the opportunity to stand with working Virginians, and yet again, she voted party and profits for billionaires over people.”
