NEW AD: Affordable Virginia Releases Second Ad Calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to Stop Cutting Health Care
Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia launched a new TV ad calling out Rep. Jen Kiggans for voting to cut Medicaid and raise health care costs for working Virginia families already struggling with the rising cost of living.
In the ad, “Bernita”, Rep. Jen Kiggans’ constituent Bernita tells her own story as the primary caretaker of her son, who has cerebral palsy and relies on Medicaid for treatment. She is also the primary caretaker for her elderly parents. Richardson reacts to Rep. Kiggans saying she was proud to vote for the Republican Tax Law, a bill that drastically slashed Medicaid, putting families like hers at risk. Richardson calls on Rep. Jen Kiggans to stop giving tax cuts to billionaires and to stand up for her constituents who could lose their health care and are fighting for their lives.
“I didn’t plan on becoming a Medicaid advocate, but I also didn’t plan on becoming a full-time caretaker for my son and my parents,” said Bernita. “Life is always busy, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices to make sure that your family has everything they need, and Medicaid makes that possible. With Rep. Kiggans’ vote to slash funding for Medicaid, I’m worried that my son won’t receive the care he needs to live a fulfilling life. I am calling on Rep. Kiggans to stop these extreme health care cuts and to stop attacking working families just trying to survive.”
Bernita’s story will additionally be featured in a digital billboard in Hampton Roads, where thousands of drivers will see her call out Rep. Kiggans for voting to cut Medicaid.
When Rep. Jen Kiggans voted for the Republican Tax Law, she slashed Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians who rely on it. These cuts will rip health care away from those who need it, threaten health care jobs, and close rural hospitals here in the Commonwealth.
Last month, Rep. Kiggans also voted against restoring health care tax credits, increasing the cost of health care for nearly 400,000 Virginians.
