Rep. Jen Kiggans Supported $1,700 Tariff Tax on Virginia Families – They Want It Back
Virginia Beach, VA – After the Supreme Court ruled that most of President Trump’s tariffs are illegal, Virginians continue to feel the squeeze. Many of these tariffs remain in place, prices remain high, job losses are mounting, and small businesses have been forced to shutter.
This past year, working families in the Commonwealth have seen their groceries, health care, energy, and just about everything go up to the tune of $5.7 billion in tariffs, an average of $1,700 per family. Rep. Jen Kiggans supported President Trump's implementation of these tariffs and told her constituents to be patient with the process. She has stayed silent on the issue since the ruling came down.
“With prices going up, it’s been hard to keep up. I’m ready to barter if that will help me make room in my budget,” said Bill, Isle of Wight. “I am angry that prices just keep going up, it seems like no one can ever catch a break. Meanwhile, Rep. Kiggans gave massive tax breaks to billionaires and corporations. How is that fair? Rep. Kiggans and Republicans in Congress need to return the money they stole through these tariffs and fight to actually lower costs for their constituents.”
These tariffs have proven what we’ve long known to be true, that tariffs are a tax on working people. Families have paid about 95% of the cost of tariffs this year, with tariffs on food imports amounting to nearly a 12% tax on groceries.
