Rep. Kiggans Doubles Down on Do-Nothing Health Care Bill That Does Not Address ACA Tax Credits

Virginia Beach, VA – Yesterday, Congress voted on a Republican-led health care bill that does not address the looming health care crisis their inaction on ACA tax credits has caused. Among those supporting the bill was Rep. Kiggans who has repeatedly claimed to want a “runway” to allow Congress to find a long-term plan, but failed to sign-on to the discharge petition to extend the credits for 3 years.

“I’m not sure what the point of this Republican health care bill was. It wouldn’t lower costs, it wouldn’t hold insurance companies accountable, and it wouldn’t extend the ACA tax credits. It didn’t actually include anything tangible that would help my family. The ACA is the only reason my family can afford health care while running a small business,” said Kathleen Winters, Small Business Owner and Mom of 2. “I can already see our premiums jumping by hundreds of dollars, and without a real solution, they could become completely unaffordable. While families like mine are facing this uncertainty, Rep. Jen Kiggans hasn’t signed on to any viable plan to protect the ACA tax credits. Supporting this bill is as good as nothing, and when the ACA tax credit extension bill comes up, she needs to support it.”

“With over 20,000 of her constituents relying on ACA tax credits, it’s a wonder why Rep. Kiggans didn’t sign onto the discharge petition for a three-year extension,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “We know that Virginians care about affordability, and that health care costs have risen, some premiums even doubling, for the same plans people had in 2025. This Republican Health Care Bill doesn’t address the affordability crisis at all and wil make it worse. This is just another piece of do-nothing legislation for Rep. Kiggans to hide behind instead of standing up for her constituents and supporting policy that actually makes a difference in their daily lives. We know that she has wanted to get rid of the Affordable Care Act and these tax credits since she took office, but she still needs to answer to her constituents, and do what she was sent to Congress to do – help them! She can start by supporting the three-year extension whenever it comes to the floor for a vote.”
