Rep. Kiggans STILL Doubling Down on Opposing Only Viable Path to Extending ACA Tax Credits

Virginia Beach, VA – Yesterday, a Democratic-led discharge petition to extend ACA tax credits for three years reached the required 218 signatures to force a floor vote, after several Republicans signed on. Rep. Jen Kiggans was not among them and doubled down on her decision to oppose the three-year extension when she spoke to Channel 13 just yesterday.

The three-year discharge petition was the only viable opportunity to bring an extension to the ACA tax credits to the floor. By opposing this bill, she is supporting raising the health care costs of the over 20,000 constituents in her district who rely on these credits.

Rep. Jen Kiggans: “A clean three-year extension was not an option for me because it did not provide for any ideas for reform.”

“We know that it has been a priority for Rep. Kiggans since she took office to permanently end the Affordable Care Act and these tax credits, so when she says reform, what she means is ending a tool that is essential for making health care affordable for working Virginians,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “Rep. Kiggans knows what’s at stake, and yet she keeps failing her constituents when she actually has the opportunity to support them. Health care isn’t optional for people with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and because of her opposition to real solutions, families are going to go without insurance due to rising costs. These ACA tax credits were the difference between people receiving care or not, and if she does not support the only viable option of a 3-year extension, she is leaving them with nothing.”
