Virginians Face Higher Energy Costs While Rep. Jen Kiggans Plays Dumb
Virginia Beach, VA – Virginians from across the Commonwealth are still seeing skyrocketing energy bills. As usual, Rep. Jen Kiggans has stayed silent on the issue after raising home energy costs when she voted for the Republican Tax Law.
“Energy costs have been the topic of conversation with neighbors and clients, regardless of where they live or their income level. My bill is up, along with everything else, I’m not surprised that Rep. Kiggans doesn’t seem interested in doing anything about it,” said Carolyn, resident of Virginia Beach. “When Rep. Jen Kiggans voted against the energy tax credits she had previously said she supported, I knew she didn’t take energy costs seriously for Virginians. I’ve basically given up on her promoting anything that could lower costs for me and my family. Whether it’s at the pump, the checkout line, health care, or my energy bill, she hasn’t done anything to help lower costs for my family. I’m calling on her to reverse course and stand up for working families.”
Rep. Jen Kiggans has claimed to support an “all of the above” approach to energy, but when she cast a vote last year for the Republican Tax Law, she ended tax credits that made solar energy accessible to working families who are now struggling with soaring household energy bills. The average Virginia household is expected to pay at least $110 more in energy bills this year due to this vote.
In addition, these credits have helped support offshore wind projects expected to generate thousands of port jobs. Over 760,000 jobs nationwide are expected to be lost due to the elimination of the credits by 2030.
