Health Care on the Chopping Block AGAIN as Rep. Kiggans Supports the War in Iran

Virginia Beach, VA – New reporting reveals that Republicans in Congress are weighing additional cuts to federal health care programs as part of an effort to fund a massive new military spending package tied to the ongoing war in Iran. Rep. Jen Kiggans has been outspoken about her support of the war, despite the resulting higher prices and over a billion-dollar-a-day price tag.

“Rep. Jen Kiggans has said ‘we don’t need’ the Affordable Care Act tax credits and has even advocated for repealing the program altogether. She has also said she was proud to vote to slash Medicaid. Now, she’s supporting a costly war and the massive spending that comes with it at the expense of her own constituents,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaign Director. “She should be focused on lowering costs and protecting access to care, not making it harder for working families to get the care they need. We are calling on her to stop making cuts to the health care programs her constituents rely on.”

These discussions could lead to further cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). They come after Rep. Jen Kiggans and Republicans in Congress voted for last year’s Republican Tax Law, which will slash Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians, kill health care jobs and close rural hospitals here in the Commonwealth. It also comes after Rep. Jen Kiggans’ vote earlier this year against restoring the ACA tax credits for 21,000 of her constituents, leading to soaring premiums and 33,000 Virginians dropping their health insurance.
