NEW AD: Virginia Beach Veteran Calls Out Kiggans for Slashing Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians

Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia launched a new ad calling out Rep. Jen Kiggans for her vote to cut Medicaid, which increases health care costs on working families and slashes health care for 260,000 Virginians while giving massive tax breaks to billionaires.

In the ad, Yusun, a constituent of Rep. Jen Kiggans from Virginia Beach and Air Force veteran, shares that his daughter has autism and relies on Medicaid to receive the care she needs. Yusun says the cuts to Medicaid are “disgraceful” and calls on Rep. Jen Kiggans to serve us, not the billionaires.

“My family knows firsthand how critical Medicaid is. As an Air Force veteran, I’ve served this country, and now I’m fighting for my daughter, who has autism and depends on Medicaid to get the care she needs to thrive. Across the country, about 3 million children in military families rely on Medicaid, and so many of those families live here in Hampton Roads,” said Yusun. “It’s disappointing to see Rep. Kiggans vote to cut a program that so many of us depend on. We need leaders who will stand with working families and veterans, not turn their backs on us.”

When Rep. Jen Kiggans voted for the Republican Tax Law, she slashed Medicaid for 260,000 Virginians who rely on it. These cuts will rip health care away from those who need it, threaten health care jobs, and close rural hospitals here in the Commonwealth. The law prioritizes tax breaks for the wealthy, as the largest benefits flow to the top 1% and corporate interests, while low-income families actually lose money.

“I’m a proud Air Force veteran and a dad

My daughter Cerine has autism and we rely on Medicaid for her care

She’s a huge inspiration, a huge joy

Representative Kiggans voted to cut Medicaid

That would be devastating to my family

She said she was proud to vote for Medicaid cuts

That’s nothing to be proud of.

And then she’s giving tax breaks to billionaires

It’s disgraceful.
