Rep. Jen Kiggans Does What She Does Best: Threatens Health Care for Working Families
Virginia Beach, VA – The House, including Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, voted today on a budget amendment. This vote threatens Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and veterans' benefits. This follows Rep. Kiggans’ pattern of voting to slash essential programs that families in her district rely on.
“Under this amendment, we could see even bigger cuts to Medicaid. Cuts to health care are an assault on our disabled community, our seniors, and our veterans. My son, who has Autism, relies on Medicaid to receive care and to live independently,” said Frankie, a veteran and Virginia Beach resident. “There is no way I would be able to provide the level of care he needs on my own. Medicaid is everything to us. Because of Medicaid, he is able to fully participate in our community and live his life to the fullest. Rep. Kiggans’ vote is a vote that threatens to strip people like my son of their well-being. When will she start putting families first?”
“One in three veterans receives Social Security, and one in ten receives Medicaid. There are over 1.5 million Virginians who rely on Medicaid, and rural communities are already seeing the impact of Medicaid cuts and having hospitals closed. Rep. Jen Kiggans continues to double down on not just bad policy, but cruel policy, in service of giving billionaires tax cuts,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “People are losing access to health care, and Rep. Kiggans is making it harder. We are calling on her to stop threatening the health care of her constituents.”
