Groceries, Energy, Health Care: Prices Rise for Virginians Under Rep. Jen Kiggans’ Record in New Report
Virginia Beach, VA – The storm has passed, but families across Virginia are still feeling the strain, struggling to afford basic necessities like bread, milk, and bottled water. According to a new study out of the office of the Joint Economic Committee Minority, Virginia families are paying an average of $1,269 more due to ever-rising inflation.
Despite Rep. Kiggans' promises to lower costs for working families, residents of Hampton Roads have not seen prices go down. Rep. Kiggans has repeatedly voted to protect this Administration’s tariffs, has voted to increase the cost of health care for thousands of her constituents, and voted to rip food assistance away from families who need it. Whether it’s energy, housing, groceries, or health care, prices just keep rising.
“My family is watching where every dollar goes. There is no room for extras anymore. We are catching up from the holidays, which were smaller than years past, and not going out for even fast food,” said Dianne Creekmore, Virginia Beach resident. “I’m not asking for a lot, but something has got to give. How does Rep. Kiggans expect people to get by when she keeps voting to make everything more expensive? When is she going to give working families a break?”
“First, it was supporting Trump’s tariffs, then it was the Republican Tax Law, and then it was letting the ACA tax credits expire – Rep. Kiggans has supported raising working families’ household costs at every turn,” said Emily Yeatts, Affordable Virginia Campaigns Director. “These are issues that have affected every single person. They can’t just go out and get a higher-paying job when employers can’t afford to hire another employee, and prices keep going up at these rates. Rep. Kiggans needs to open her eyes and see the damage she has done, all so that billionaires can have another tax cut.”
